Reflective Journal Entry - Week 2:

Week 2 workshop and contact sessions were a little bit of introduction of how we are going to use trove API in our team project and start generating some ideas.

In the workshop session, our tutor explained a briefly about trove API. Then, we had to search for different types of content on trove. However, it did seem that the results were inaccurate. We then had to access the api using a software, which the tutor told us about which returned a wall of text. The next step was to edit a part of the code in a text editor to return a different content form trove; i.e. books, articles, journals with more accurate results. This step gave me an idea how we are going to access trove API for our idea's topic that we are going to choose in the coming contact session.

The second hour of the workshop was to work through the articles and tutorials under the workshop skills sessions, where we got to choose between learning illustrator or photoshop. I have decided to start with illustrator, since I am familiar with photoshop, and go through the tutorials to at least be familiar with both for our team project. To be honest, I felt that these tutorials are easy to follow and understand, as I hope I will assist me in the project and for other courses I am taking next semester.

In the contact session, we had an activity where each student has to go to the name of the month of his/her birth written on the whiteboard, where we had to introduce ourselves to the other students born in the same month by saying our favourite colour, animal, and superpower we wish to have. This helped linking us with a either the favourite colour, animal, or superpower we wish to have. As a result, a long chain was created and got to know only few people.

The second hour of the contact was to form a team of 8 people and start generating some ideas that will use trove content. Then we had to swap teams and start generating some more ideas. This activity was very useful, it gave us information about how to generate ideas that will use trove API. I hope this will help us to come up with interactive ideas using trove API.
